A Winter Candle Gazing Ritual to Keep You Glowing All Winter Long

Winter is a beautiful time of year with lots of celebration, but it can also be difficult when the lower temperatures are keeping you cooped up inside all day. The shorter days can make you feel out of alignment, and leave you anxious for spring to arrive.

Magic can help you stay balanced despite the weather. Remember, you always have the power of the elements at your fingertips, and you can tap into that energy whenever you start to feel heavy with the winter blues. Restore the balance physically, emotionally, and spiritually with the passionate, warming power of fire. Here’s one of my favorite fire rituals to keep you glowing all winter long. It’s pretty simple, but incredibly powerful.

Winter Candle Gazing Ritual

Sit quietly in a place where you know you won’t be disturbed for a couple minutes.

Bring your awareness to the places where your body is making contact with the floor. It’s especially important to feel very grounded before you begin this ritual.

Rest your arms on your lap and turn your palms face up, ready to receive energy. If you are concerned about feeling cold, keep a blanket or sweater nearby.

When you feel grounded and relaxed, say the words, “I call on the element of fire to soothe my body, comfort my mind, and warm my heart.”

Light a red candle (or whatever you have on hand). Tea lights and birthday candles work just fine.

Bring your gaze to the very base of the flame. Blink whenever you feel the need. Allow your gaze to go a bit unfocused. Practice closing your eyes and seeing the flame behind your eyelids. This is how you will begin to bring that fire energy into your body.

As you alternate focusing on the flame with your eyes open and shut, visualize the light of the flame seeping into your body. Breathe in the light, feel the subtle heat on your skin, and listen for any quiet, comforting sounds the candle makes.

Visualize the fire energy in the form of a golden light welling up in your chest. In your mind’s eyes, see it getting bigger and brighter until it fills your body, the room, and the entire building you’re sitting in.

When you feel warm and relaxed, you may end your ritual. Deepen your breath, slowly bring your awareness back to the room, and snuff or blow out your candle if it hasn’t burned down all the way.

Your ritual is complete! Feel free to journal about any feelings, thoughts, or images that passed through your consciousness during your ritual. Use the free printable below to record your thoughts, feelings and any messages you receive during your ritual. Print as many copies as you like.
