Poppets are a highly misunderstood magical tool. It’s true, poppets can be used to throw shade at your evil nemesis (for example), but that’s not all they do. You can make a poppet to represent yourself and use it to attract goodness into your life.

You already have a sort of “poppet” of yourself—your self concept—a small, crude representation of who you believe you are or who you believe others see you as.

But remember, that poppet isn’t you, Goddess. It’s just a representation of one tiny fragment of your essence. There's more to you than that.

Anytime you make a representation of yourself, you are forced to see yourself for who you really are—your flaws, false beliefs, or your emotional wounds that may cause you to see the world as a place of turmoil. A poppet can allow you to see yourself from a higher perspective.

When the Poppet card shows up, it may be time to examine your thoughts and actions and be brutally honest with yourself. Where are you causing your own drama? Where are you self-sabotaging?

Look at your life from a higher perspective the same way you can look at your poppet. Take a step back from your life and shine some light on your flaws. It’s OK, Goddess. Flaws always lead to growth.

Practical Magic for the Modern Goddess

You can make a poppet out of yarn, corn husks, clay, cloth, or even foil! Shape the doll into your likeness (or someone else’s) the best you can. It doesn’t matter if the poppet actually looks like the person or not. If possible, stuff the poppet with crystals, herbs, or dried flower petals that support your intention, such as rose petals to bring love or rosemary for protection. Finally, add one detail that connects the poppet to the person it represents like tying a ribbon around the waist in that person’s favorite color.
