MOON POWER INTENSIVE || Moon Art + Sigils
Hello, Moon Goddesses!
This week we’re focusing on making moon sigils! This is a wonderful and creative way to infuse magic into every moon phase while keeping your energy light and flowy. Sigils spells are great to combine with moon magic because they are both powered by your subconscious. Sigils are activated through your subconscious, and the moon is strongly associated with your subconscious because it shines on you all night as you sleep (and dream).
I recommend doing this activity the week before the new moon so that you have time to create your magical art, and then use it for the upcoming moon cycle.
Materials Needed:
-paper
-scissors
-a writing utensil
-a journal or the moon art workbook
-a tea light
-a toothpick, knife or athame
Directions:
Prepare your sacred space. This can mean lighting a bit of incense, arranging a couple crystals in your workspace, or playing your favorite Spotify playlist. (I’ve listed my favorite moon-inspired herbs, oils, crystals and music at the bottom of this page.) Since this is a moon ritual, I like to use one white tea light to create my sacred space. These are great because they burn for about twenty minutes—about how long this magical art project will take you—and when lit, tea lights look like a bright full moon. You can use a toothpick or the tip of a knife (or athame if you have one) to carve a word into the wax on top of the tea light. This will set your intention. You can use any word you like, but one that I like to use for this kind of ritual is the word: “Create”.
Fill out the Moon Sigil Workbook with your four intentions. (Click the Moon Sigil Workbook Button towards the bottom of the page.)
Draw the four sigils you’ve created on the four cards. You can decorate each sigil with colors as well. Cut out the cards, turn them over and shuffle them. Assign each one a moon phase—new moon, waxing moon, full moon and waning moon—by writing the moon phase on the back of each card. Do this randomly. Don’t try to match the moon phase to the corresponding sigil.
Activate each sigil on the night each moon phase. You can use new moon energy for two days before and two days after the “official” new moon. The same goes for the full moon. The waxing and waning moon phase can be honored for about fourteen days each. Pick any one night between the new moon and full moon to honor the waxing moon. Pick any night between the full moon and the dark moon (or new moon) to honor the waning moon.
To activate your moon sigil, sit outside or by a window and hold the card in your hands. Gaze at the sigil until your eyes start to go out of focus. This is similar to when you looked at a Magic Eye picture as a kid. (Google “Magic Eye” if you’ve never done one. It’s an excellent way to learn how to activate sigils and scry!) If you’ve forgotten which sigil is which, even better. Your conscious mind might not remember what it meant, but you super powerful subconscious mind will know, and it will begin manifesting your sigil along with the moon’s abundant energy.Once you’ve activated your sigil, you can leave that sigil by your window (or in a notebook by your window for more privacy) or you can sleep with it under your pillow for that night.
Create four new sigils for each moon, or you simplify this ritual by only creating two moon sigils—one for the new moon and one for the full moon. Discard or burn your sigils at the end of each moon cycle, or keep them on your altar or in a special box until you feel it is time to release them.
Items and Music to Create a Moon-Themed Sacred Space for Art:
Incense:
-Moonflower (or white morning glory) incense, Bergamot incense, Frankincense resin, and star anise incense are perfect for honoring the moon and igniting creativity. These can also be used as essential oils. Put a few drops of the essential oil in an essential oil diffuser, or in a spray bottle of water, and spritz it in the four corners of your space.
Crystals:
-Selenite, a bright white (or pink) stone associated with all phases of the moon.
-Peacock Ore for inner truth, happiness and creativity.
-Carnelian, a stone for all artists and creatives. It’s known as the artist’s stone, and has the ability to call in a lover who connects with you on the soul level.
-Smoky Quartz, a grounding stone that typically has both light and dark shades in the stone (like the moon).
-Amethyst: a stone of intuition, healthy habits, and spiritual connection.
Music:
State your witchy intention aloud before you hit “play”.
