Brooms are used for flying, of course! Just kidding. Brooms are used in magic to clear out any unwanted energy from a space. It’s one of the quickest and most effective ways to cleanse a room and prepare it for magic.

When you draw the Broom card, it could be a sign to “freshen up” your energy. If energy lingers in one place for too long it gets stale and heavy.

Have you had your heart set on something for a while now but haven’t made much progress? Shake up your energy field by trying a new tactic or inviting a new person into your life. What can you change today that will shift your energy? It doesn’t matter if the shift leaves you feeling slightly unbalanced. It’s OK to be unbalanced sometimes, especially if it will create movement.

The Broom card is also a call to sweep away any thoughts, regrets, or past mistakes that have been keeping your energy from flowing like it usually does. What can you clear out of your energetic field, Goddess? Now is the time.

Practical Magic for the Modern Goddess

You can make your own magical broom or use a store-bought one. Some people believe your magical broom must only be used for magic and not for actual cleaning, but that’s totally up to you.

To energetically cleanse your space, hold your broom and make quick, firm outward strokes. Keep your broom about three inches from the ground because you’re sweeping away unwanted energy right now, not physical dirt. Do this in a counterclockwise spiral, starting in the center of the room and moving outward. Visualize the unwanted energy drifting out of the room.

This can be done in your sacred meditation space or any room that feels energetically heavy.
